Communication was the theme of last week’s monthly MRED Alumni Board Meeting and graduates can expect to hear more from the Association in the next few months.

Not only have we successfully connected current candidates to professionals out of state – thank you Sugey Gomez (class of 2014) for establishing the Board’s California chapter – but we’re also launching a campaign to help track down and connect grads across the industry.

More than just raising support for M.R.E.D., the mission of the Alumni Board is to help foster relationships with as many graduates and industry professionals as possible.

Board members will be e-mailing and calling graduates over the next few months to find out who’s interested in networking, and more ways the Association can help keep you up to date and informed.

Please take our calls and give us your thoughts!

In the mean time, those of you near and dear should mark your calendars:

  •  February 19-20: M.R.E.D. Class Synthesis 2 Presentations
    • Warehouses are finally on the table for adaptive reuse in Phoenix, and right on cue the MRED candidates will have to sell their profs that a downtown Phoenix warehouse is ripe for re-development, in theory anyway.
    • Alumni and program friends are welcomed to watch the presentations one or both days in the M.R.E.D. suite, McCord Hall (300 E. Lemon Street) on the ASU campus.
    • Presentations will begin 8:00 a.m. both days.
    • Email/Call Wimberly Doran for logistics: wimberly.doran@asu.edu. 602-999-0240
  • February 24: Alumni Lecture Series with Jim Deakyne (M.R.E.D. 2012)
    • Jim Deakyne has over over twenty years in the commercial real estate sector and is now president of ground-up commercial development advisory firm, Urban Advisors, LLC.(http://www.urbanadvisorsllc.com).
    • He will chat with current MRED candidates in about his MRED experience and some unique projects he has worked on since his graduation, including his history with Lennar Multifamily.
    • Tuesday, 2/24 @ Noon.
    • M.R.E.D. Suite (ASU Tempe) 300 E. Lemon Street.
    • Email/Call Wimberly Doran for logistics: wimberly.doran@asu.edu. 602-999-0240
  • March 6: M.R.E.D. Class/Board hors-devours at New Tempe Postino’s
    • You don’t need a glass of wine to enjoy the posh ambiance that just moved into College Ave., but there’s hundreds of labels should you decide to wet your lips. Either way, join the M.R.E.D. current candidates and Alums for an hors-devours mixer at the newest location of Upward Project’s trend-setting adaptive reuse wine bar/restaurant concept, Postino Annex.
    • Non-alcoholic, gourmet goodies will be provided courtesy of M.R.E.D, and the former Art Annex building should inspire development stories and good times.  Join us and share!
    • Friday, 3/6 @ 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
    • 615 S. College Ave, the former Art Annex (read the New Times article).
    • Cash bar available
  • March 5-6: Arizona Builders’ Exchange Metro Phoenix Development Summit
    • If you were told that Maricopa County’s largest cities, the AZ State Land Dept., and ASU were going to get together and pitch what they think are their jurisdictions’ most shovel-ready properties – both public and private – would you want to go? AZBEX magazine is hosting a conference early next month for them to do just that.
    • Developers and their teams are invited to watch the presentations and sit one-on-one with economic development departments from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, Mesa, and others.
    • Publisher Rebekah Morris is inviting M.R.E.D. Alum to attend and looking for volunteers to help host the event. She welcomes your calls (ask about pricing and/or volunteering).
    • MRED Alumni Communications Officer Brian Mori interviewed Rebekah on his weekly podcast, Arizona Skylines, this past Saturday. Listen and/or read an interview with Rebekah about AZBEX and the Development Summit.
    • 2 Page Summit Flyer
