In 2012, Phoenix infill developers Jon Kitchell and Lorenzo Perez of Venue Projects (think The Windsor and Churn) decided to put their money where there mouths were, almost literally. They purchased a nearly 16,000 SF vacant restaurant in the heart of Phoenix and re-purposed it as a multi-revenue community gathering place, featuring a destination boutique restaurant and the Valley’s only bar-in-a-bookstore. The former Beefeaters Steakhouse at 3rd Avenue and Camelback was once a watering hole – or you could say meat’n place – where Phoenix professionals, leaders, and their families gathered. The restaurant closed in 2006 and sat vacant through the recession until Venue partnered with Tempe based Changing Hands Bookstore and gourmet chef Justin Beckett (Beckett’s Table) to revive the iconic mid-century modern structure, which sits on prime frontage along Camelback Road and the Metro Light Rail. Since opening in mid 2014, The Newton secured independent retailer Southwest Gardener, and continues to offer space in what’s becoming the newest destination attraction in uptown Phoenix.

Food, drinks, and stories will be provided.
